About Us
-History-I (Kevin) was raised on a family farm on which I worked as a child and continued to work nights, weekends and summers throughout school. My first farms were rented on halves with my brother while in high school, and I purchased my first farm while attending college at UW Madison. Erika and I were married in 1994 and though she was not a “farm girl” she quickly became an integral part of our farming operation. Over time we have expanded our cash grain operation utilizing custom farming (planting, tillage, harvest, and hauling for others) to expediate our business growth. We continue in a growth stage and will for the foreseeable future always looking for new opportunities.
-Goals-Our goals are to be a progressive, prosperous farming operation while holding close to our Christian values. Providing our children with an environment that supports work ethic and dedication in an effort to show them a sense of accomplishment in a job well done. All the while being an asset to our families and those of our employees as well as the community as a whole.
-Currently-
Klondike Farms is a cash grain and custom farming operation centered in Brooklyn WI. We own and rent more than 5000 acres at tillable land and custom plant, till, and harvest another 4000 acres. We employ five full time hired men as well as many part time and seasonal employees. Our operation is based on a few unchanging principles, Honesty, Quality, and Hard Work. We take great pride in being honest and fair with our landlords and customers. As well as putting a great deal of effort into the quality of work preformed. While Kevin is in charge of the daily management of the farming activities, Erika is an essential part of our operations. She handles payroll, record keeping and monthly accounting. Erika also provides all of the employees with home prepared meals during our planting and harvest seasons. Our employees are a key cornerstone of our business. Without their dedication and commitment all productivity would halt. Klondike Farms employs the use of many current technologies to increase efficiencies on the farm. We currently map production through yield monitors on all combines, which helps us analyze varieties as well as production techniques. We grid sample (site specific soil sampling) to determine where nutrients are needed, and utilize variable rate fertilizing to place those nutrients in the proper location. We strip till, fertilize which bands nutrients where the plant can make best use of them. Side dressing nitrogen to growing corn helps to time nitrogen application so that the nutrient is there when the plant needs them most. The farm has adapted auto steer technology to reduce the amount of over lapping in spraying, planting, and fertilizing to reduce fuel consumption and the expense of over applied products. We are always striving to improve all facets of our farming operation and adapt to our changing business environment. |
